You may have heard about the hearings being conducted by Homeland Security Chairman Peter King’s. These so-called hearings were called to examine the extent of the radicalization of American Muslims. This is the same Peter King who supported the Irish Republican Army, which was a military organization committed to overthrowing British Rule and occupation of their homelands and committed acts of violence to achieve their goals during the 1980s and 90s. The Irish Republican Army had been designated as a terrorist organization by the US State Department. Peter King was one of their biggest supporters in the United States and played an active role in the dispute between the British and the disenfranchised people of Ireland.
In 2005, Peter King, current Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, was supportive of the Bush administration’s role in the outing of Valerie Plame, a covert CIA operative and the wife of US Ambassador Joe Wilson who wrote an article about the Bush administration’s lies in its rush to invade Iraq shortly after the 911 attacks. Not only was Peter King supportive of the outing of this CIA operative, a very serious breach of National Security, but also suggested that acts of terrorism should be committed against members of the American news media. King said the "crosshairs" ought to be set on the news media, which were not tough enough on her husband, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, rather than Karl Rove. King went to suggest that the media "be shot" for pursuing the story and identifying White House aide Karl Rove as the alleged leaker.
This is the man currently conducting Joe McCarthy like hearings singling out a religion for investigation for encouraging terrorism. While much has been written about these Muslim Witch hunts, what has not been written is the very strong likelihood that these hearings represent a hate crime being committed against every single American citizen who have chosen Islam as their religion. While I am not a lawyer, I believe a very strong case could be put together by a team of lawyers based on the current hate crime legislation and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In fact, if the law is applied correctly and the law upheld, the House Homeland Security committee should be defunded and help the Republicans not only cut the government’s budget but reduce the size of the government, two things they say they were elected to do.
Are these hearings a hate crime conspiracy in progress? In the 2002, the FBI compiled a report titled “Forward” and in that report, a quote from the American Psychological Association appeared which defines a hate crime as “not only an attack on one's physical self, but is also an attack on one's very identity."
